The pleasure of wine and wine education has been Angelo Tavernaro’s life long passion. Born to a farming family in Northern Italy, Tavernaro was introduced at an early age to the joy of pairing wine with food. Working his way through Europe and ultimately to Las Vegas, Nevada, in the hospitality industry, Tavernaro has developed an extensive education in wine pairing, buying, and tasting. ![]() Master Sommelier Angelo Tavernaro Tavernaro is a certified Wine Educator and one of three Master Sommelier’s in Washington. The term Master Sommelier is a French word meaning “to carry the wine.” A Master Sommelier typically selects, buys, pairs wine with food and recommends certain varietals for restaurants, resorts, wine cellars and distributors. To earn the title of Master Sommelier, one must pass a series of extensive and complicated tests on wine varietals, tasting and the history of grapes. Angelo Tavernaro spent 20 years at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas as the Master Sommelier for all 24 for their restaurants. He is a certified Wine Educator and has taught wine education classes at the University of Nevada and Clark County Community College and was the wine director at the Culinary Training Academy in Las Vegas. Tavernaro has also been inducted as a member of the Institute of Masters of Wine. Upon leaving Nevada, Tavernaro and his wife Debbie, who also helps teach the course, chose to move to Central Washington for the excellent grapes and wines produced in the Yakima Valley. “I tell people there is gold in these hills,” Tavernaro states. “There is such a need for knowledge, because with every bite of food and sip of wine you are introduced to an incredible exposure of flavors.”
